San Antonio has a few paths into plumbing. Here's how they compare on the factors that matter most: time, cost, depth of training, and what you actually walk out with.
What San Antonio plumbing contractors actually hire for.
Plumbing in San Antonio is steady, well-paid work, and it's in short supply. Tradecraft's plumbing program is built around the skills that get you hired by San Antonio contractors on day one: residential rough-in, DWV systems, fixture installation, commercial plumbing fundamentals, and the service and troubleshooting skills that separate a prepared hire from one who needs hand-holding.
You'll train on real materials and real systems from day one in our San Antonio lab, PEX, copper, PVC, and cast iron. By the time you graduate, you'll have worked through residential rough-in, a full trim-out project, commercial install scenarios, and a timed troubleshooting final. Not simulations. Actual work.
The job readiness component on day 30 isn't an afterthought. How you show up, how you communicate with a lead plumber, how you handle a job site, these are the things that determine whether a contractor asks for you back after day one.

What training actually looks like.
Real equipment, real tools, real hours on the floor. This is the San Antonio lab where students spend 70%+ of the program.
240 hours. 73% of it in the lab.
Plumbing is a physical trade. You learn it by doing it. Cutting, joining, fitting, testing, fixing. Tradecraft's curriculum is structured around that reality: the majority of every day is hands-on, with instruction built to support what you're doing in the lab, not the other way around.
The 7:00 AM start mirrors a real job-site day. By the time you're working for a San Antonio contractor, that schedule will already feel normal.
Daily structure: 50 minutes instruction + 10-minute break = 1 clock hour · 8 instructional hours per day · 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Plumbers are in demand
across San Antonio, year round.
San Antonio is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in Texas. Every new residential development, commercial build, and municipal infrastructure expansion requires skilled plumbing teams. Tradecraft Schools graduates enter a high-demand sector with continuous regional growth.
Residential Plumbing
Rapid home construction across Alamo Ranch, Converse, Schertz, and the far North Side drives constant need for residential plumbers. From rough-ins to fixture installations, local contractors are actively seeking entry-level apprentices.
Commercial & Industrial
Major commercial builds in the South Texas Medical Center, downtown San Antonio, and logistics hubs along I-35 require commercial plumbing crews. Cast iron, large pipe systems, and code compliance give Tradecraft grads an edge.
Government & Military Facilities
JBSA, Fort Sam Houston, and Lackland AFB rely on local civilian contractors for facility plumbing maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. Military veterans completing Tradecraft's plumbing program have a direct advantage in this sector.
